Testimony Tuesday: God Will Provide

On Friday, we had service in the home of one of our brother’s from church. He lost his job recently, so instead of a traditional message, we all sat in a circle and shared testimonies to encourage the family. The unofficial theme of the night was God Will Provide.  My husband shared what has been going on with his job and how last Tuesday he turned in his letter of resignation. Side-note: he was also elected to the Church’s Board the following Sunday. God is definitely up to something. 🙂

Anyway, we talked about how we believe that God is going to provide, even though we have no idea how or when or where. Another couple from our church had gone through a similar situation and talked about how God came through for them when they made the decision to put him first. It reminded me of the story of Abraham when God asked him to sacrifice his son, Isaac. Abraham made the preparations to do as God had commanded him. As Abraham and Isaac walked together to the place of sacrifice, Isaac asked him:

The fire and the wood are here, but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?” Abraham answered, “God Himself will provide the lamb for the burnt offering, my son.

And God did.

There’s so much meaty goodness to this story, but the bottom line is that Abraham had faith that God would provide. He knew there was a promise over the life of his son and trusted that God would fulfill that promise one way or another. In the same way that Abraham did not withhold anything God, neither should we! I’m not saying everyone should quit their job for full-time ministry, but that regardless of what you’re called to do, we must be willing to give him our all.

Hebrews 11:17-19

God did not withhold his only son from us, yet how many times do we go about our day without ever giving him a second thought? One of my husband’s fears (and I think this probably true for a lot of men out there) is not being able to take care of his family. When we first started talking about full-time ministry one of the first things he said was, “I don’t want you to bear the burden of our finances alone.”  On Sunday, our landlord found out he wasn’t working and asked him if he would be willing to help them out (they flip houses) and they would deduct 10 $ from our rent for every hour he works. Obviously, I am not bearing the burden of our finances alone.

God is with us… and he will provide.

God is great at providing in amazing, unexpected ways! My wife and I are constantly learning that. Although not in full time ministry, we always tell God that we will go where He leads and minister in that spot, regardless of what type of job it is. God has always provided and done amazing things in people’s lives. Thanks for sharing your testimony!
